What kind of effect will having a higher load index tires on my car?
Q. The manufacturer of my car recommends tires with a tire load index of 93v but I see a sale for 97v. What kind of effects could that potentially introduce, if any? I will be changing all 4 at the same time.
Asked by babatekle - Wed Nov 12 10:48:12 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As long as you are replacing them with the same size tires and just a different load rating you won't have any ill effects. The difference is a 93 is 1433 lbs and a 97 is 1609 lbs. You will need to adjust the air pressure accordingly (less pressure) to meet the load capacity requirements of your vehicle. Not setting the pressures correctly can result in a stiffer ride as well as irregular tire wear.
