A genre (pronounced /ˈʒɑːnrə/, also /ˈdʒɑːnrə/; from French, genre /ʒɑ̃ʀ/, "kind" or "sort", from Latin: genus (stem gener-), Greek: genos, γένος) is a loose set of criteria for a category of composition; the term is often used to categorize literature and speech, but is also used for any other form of art or utterance. Genres are vague categories with no fixed boundaries, they are formed by sets of conventions, and many works cross into multiple genres by way of borrowing and recombining these conventions. The scope of the word "genre" is sometimes confined to art and culture, particularly literature and music, but it has a long history in rhetoric as well. In genre studies the concept of genre is not compared to originality. Rather, all works are recognized as either reflecting on or participating in the conventions of genre. From Wikipedia under the

I'm looking for an artist or genre that has a smooth kind of brooding sound. Something with an almost ominous feel. Easy on the ears yet still heavy enough to keep your attention. Maybe a group that utilizes diminished 7th chords or something. Asked by Coleton K - Thu Mar 12 02:20:44 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Q. Let me explain: In boxing, many say that if you look at how well the heavyweight division is doing, than the same goes for the rest of the sport. For example, if the heavyweight division is lackluster at the time, then the rest of the sport is lackluster at the time. If the heavyweight division is exciting, then the sport is exciting. So what I am asking is, what genre of music can you look at and say, "___ is doing good/bad, so music in general is doing good/bad.
