Tar is modified resin produced primarily from the wood and roots of pine by destructive distillation under pyrolysis. It is a viscous black liquid. Production and trade in tar was a major contributor in the economies of Northern Europe and Colonial America. Its main use was in preserving and protecting wooden vessels against rot. The largest user was the Royal Navy. Demand for tar declined with the advent of iron and steel ships. Tar-like products can also be produced from other forms of organic matter such as peat. Mineral products resembling tar can be produced from fossil hydrocarbons including petroleum. Coal tar tar is produced from coal as a byproduct of coke production. From Wikipedia under the

Answered by KAREN A - Sun Sep 10 18:34:21 2006 What to do about peeling tar paper on side of a barn? Q. I recently bought a house that has an old barn/carport. Its siding is tar paper that is badly peeling off. Is there some way to remedy this? Do I have to peel off all the rest and totally redo it or can I patch up the bare spots? And how hard is this to do? Would I need a contractor or siding specialist? By the way, it is just the siding. The roof is fine. But it looks horrible. Thanks for any advice or help. Asked by julie_ivypup - Tue Apr 3 23:27:31 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I don't think you need a contractor or specialist. We have just covered over the old tar paper, it worked just fine. It is not hard to do, just takes time. Answered by flowerweeangel - Tue Apr 3 23:52:13 2007 What kind of work are the Alberta tar sands requiring the most?

You name it and alot are skilled or trade jobs, one were you need a certification or papers, take a look at HRDC website, click on Alberta, the Fort McMurray and search the 48 hour or 7 day set of jobs for a better picture, I worked as a chef in Alberta in the early 1980's then there schools were just getting trained people into the industry, most of the chefs n Edmonton at that time were from out of province and had worked in Ontario or Quebec. Just be aware there is work, but little place to live, I saw a documentary were they rent apartment when available for $1000 a month, even RV trailers go for $800 a month, so be sure your up to the challenge as it gets colder there earlier in the year and longer than most parts of the country,… [cont.] Answered by The Unknown Chef - Wed Jul 16 07:13:22 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Tar" |
