Why British people occupy the seats which others reserved?
Q. I can't understand why British people occupy the train seats which others reserved. Some will not move even if they are asked to do so. Please tell me how to cope with these arrogant people.

A. Some people just seem to believe that rules are made to be broken. People like that probably also enjoy a bit of a confrontation - it's a chance for them to feel powerful. So if I were you, I'd just ask them once nicely, "Excuse me, I have a reservation for this seat, would you mind awfully moving?" Then if they don't have the grace to move straightaway, just walk away, and perhaps look for a member of staff to deal with them. I assume these trains you're talking about are in England? If it's abroad you're talking about, I think it would be fair to assume that the British people concerned were just ignorant of the system - in Italy for instance, seat reservations aren't displayed on the seats, you have to occupy the seat specified on… [cont.]

A. The British put more laws and new taxes on the colonies to try to control them. The British thought that the colonists were very weak so they didn't think the colonists could do anything to them. After the taxes didn't work they went to war with the colonists in the Revolution War
