The definition of an artist is wide-ranging and covers a broad spectrum of activities to do with creating art, practicing the arts and/or demonstrating an art. The normal meaning in both everyday speech and academic discourse is a practitioner in the visual arts only. The term is often used in the entertainment business, especially in a business context, for musicians and other performers (less often for actors). "Artiste" (the French for artist) is a variant used in English only in this context. Use of the term to describe writers, for example, is certainly valid, but less common, and mostly restricted to contexts like criticism. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I am having trouble finding artists which convey their intended meaning/message in their work. And who also explore vital elements as the focus in their works. If anyone could suggest any artists, i would really appreciate it!! =) i know that 'vital elements' is a bit difficult to understand- but thats what my task sheet says... I guess it is just the artists important elements/ideas/themes in their work Asked by Carmi - Tue Sep 23 07:38:25 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. art is about conveying a message in ones work. Unless it has a purely decorative or utilitarian function all artwork convey a message in the work. I also don't know what you mean with vital elements. It's probably easiest if the message is social or political. Banksy comes to mind, Georg Grosz, Egon Schiele, George Segal are some where it is pretty obvious and easy. Answered by tigris - Tue Sep 23 08:27:16 2008 How important are graphic artists nowadays? Is there any need in the world for people who can draw and paint? Q. I want to know if there is any need in the world for people who can draw or paint. I mean, with photography and Photoshop nowadays, is there really any need for graphic designers/artists? I want to be a painter or at least draw, but I'm not sure if there is a need for them in society these days. What do you think of people who can draw and paint? Is there any need for them anymore? Is it a talent worth having these days? Asked by Fish Stick Jesus - Sat Sep 15 01:37:03 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. There is, and always will be, a need for real artists. First of all, most graphic artists are still fine artists by heart that happen to use a different medium for the sake of modern convenience. Most graphic artists that I know still do the majority of their work by hand and then digitize it for editing purposes. Yes, graphic programs such as PhotoShop and Illustrator makes creating decent artwork a lot easier, but you still need an artistic touch to create it. As someone who works in the commercial field, I've seen a recent rise in demand of "genuine" artwork. These days people are gradually turning away from overly digitized work and leaning towards work that have a more hand-made quality or look towards them. The market is slowly… [cont.] Answered by Secret Asian Man - Sat Sep 15 01:52:34 2007 How can I make my songs known to artists?
Q. As composer, how can I make my songs known to artists, so they can sing them? Asked by Iulian B. - Tue Jan 1 16:40:46 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Not sure. This is all I have from when my cousin started trying to sell bluegrass songs. He worked very hard at it for a year with no luck. You pretty much have to be already famous in the business for anyone to want to buy your songs. Good luck.
