A museum is a building or institution that houses and cares for a collection of artifacts and other objects of scientific, artistic, or historical importance and makes them available for public viewing through exhibits that may be permanent or temporary. Most large museums are located in major cities throughout the world and more local ones exist in smaller cities, towns and even the countryside. Early museums began as the private collections of wealthy individuals, families or institutions of art and rare or curious natural objects and artifacts. The museums of ancient times, such as the Musaeum of Alexandria, would be equivalent to a modern graduate institute. From Wikipedia under the

What have you found to be the most effective ways for Museums to promote themselves? Q. How have you found Museums to be successful in promoting their upcoming exhibitions? Have you seen certain ideas work for getting their name in more outlets? Asked by evangeline518 - Tue Nov 13 16:13:56 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The museum and the art community have a strong link. Cross marketing has been successful and an inexpensive way to work. Eg. Museum puts their leaflets at the theatres. And lets the theatre put their leaflets in the museum. That way, they promote each other's services without costing anything. The link could be similarly used for websites. Also, to tap on each other's data base for direct mailing. Answered by Irene Z - Tue Nov 13 23:16:25 2007 where can i find a full database of world monuments, attractions and museums? Q. I need a complete database with all monuments, attractions and museums in the world. Somebody can help me? Asked by Simone.G - Tue Sep 2 12:52:40 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. There is not one full database unfortunately. This is mainly due to the fact that each country differs in their policies, etc. Within each country there may be databases - i can think of CAN in Australia, though even this is by no mean an exhaustive list and i'm sure there would be similar ones done by different countries. There's several international committees, such as ICOMOS, but again its certainly not a full database. Its really a matter of looking around for different committees and site and putting it all together. Answered by babs_kebabs - Thu Sep 4 02:36:26 2008 Which museums in Norway have the most foreign visitors?
Q. I am planning a scientific research on art museums in Norway. The study is researching if difference in cultural background effects the extend to which people are satisfied with the experience of the museum. Can some people tell me which museums in Norway (especially near Kristiansand, since that will be my base) have the most foreign visitors? Asked by Emile D - Thu Jan 11 05:44:36 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I can only speak from experience, but the Gokstad Museet is brilliant, particularly if you're into history and medieval art. Some of the stavkirker also are really worth visiting in my opinion. Surely, these both get lots of foreign visitors. Have fun in Norway; it's a great country!
